Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa

^[1] (born January 16, 1966 in Mexico City)^[2] is the Mayor-elect of Mexico City, a lawyer and politician who works with the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).^[A] Mancera graduated from the Faculty of Law of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1989, and was awarded the Gabino Barreda Medal two years later, for being the best student of his class. He has a Master's degree from the University of Barcelona and the Metropolitan Autonomous University, and a Juris Doctor from the UNAM.

Mancera has been a professor at multiple universities, including the UNAM, Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico and University of Mexico Valley. In 2002, he began working as bureaucrat when Marcelo Ebrard, then-Secretary of Public Security of Mexico City, invited him to be his adviser. In 2006, Mancera became Assistant Attorney General, and from 2008 to 2012 he worked as Attorney General of the city. According to official reports, from 2010 to 2011 crime in Mexico City decreased by up to 12%.^[3] In early 2012, Mancera became the candidate of the Progressive Movement coalition, composed of the political parties PRD, Labor Party and Citizens' Movement Party, for Head of Government of the Federal District in the July 1, 2012 elections. On July 7, 2012, Mancera became Mayor-elect after he won with over 63% of the vote, and is due to take office in December 2012.^[1

Veselin Aleksandrov Topalov

 (pronounced [vɛsɛˈlin toˈpɑlof]; Bulgarian: Веселин Александров Топалов; born 15 March 1975) is a Bulgarian chess grandmaster.

Topalov became the FIDE World Chess Champion by winning the FIDE World Chess Championship 2005. He lost his title in the World Chess Championship 2006 match against Vladimir Kramnik. He won the 2005 Chess Oscar.^[1]

He has been ranked number one a total of 27 months in his career, fourth all-time since the inception of the FIDE ranking lists in 1971 behind only Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, and Bobby Fischer. He was ranked No. 1 in the world from April 2006 to January 2007, during which his Elo rating was 2813, which had been surpassed only by Garry Kasparov, and subsequently by Magnus Carlsen, Anand and Levon Aronian. He regained the world No. 1 ranking again in October 2008, and officially remained No. 1 until January 2010, when he fell to No. 2 behind Carlsen.^[2] In October 2012 he was ranked number 13.^[2]

In the World Chess Championship 2010, he was the challenger facing world champion Viswanathan Anand, losing the match 6½–5½.

Sergey Alexandrovich Karjakin

 (Ukrainian: Сергій Олександрович Карякін, Serhiy Oleksandrovych Karjakin; Russian: Серге́й Алекса́ндрович Каря́кин; born January 12, 1990 in Simferopol) is a Russian (formerly Ukrainian) chess grandmaster. He was a chess prodigy and holds the record for both the youngest International Master, at eleven years and eleven months, and grandmaster, at the age of twelve years and seven months, in history. In September 2011 he had an Elo rating of 2772, making him Russia's second best chess player, and the fifth in the world.

On July 25, 2009, Karjakin adopted Russian citizenship.^[1][2]

Viswanathan Anand

(IPA: [ʋiʃʋəˈn̪aːt̪ən ˈaːnən̪d̪]; born 11 December 1969) is an Indian chess Grandmaster and the current World Chess Champion. Anand has won the World Chess Championship five times^[1] (2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012), and has been the undisputed World Champion since 2007. Anand was the FIDE World Rapid Chess Champion in 2003, and is widely considered the strongest rapid player of his generation.^[2][3]

Anand became India's first grandmaster in 1987.^[4] He was also the first recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1991–92, India's highest sporting honour. In 2007, he was awarded India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, making him the first sportsperson to receive the award in Indian history. Anand has won the Chess Oscar six times (1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008).

He held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000 to 2002, at a time when the world title was split. He became the undisputed World Champion in 2007 and defended his title against Vladimir Kramnik in 2008. He then successfully defended his title in the World Chess Championship 2010 against Veselin Topalov and in the World Chess Championship 2012^[5] against Boris Gelfand. As the reigning champion, he will face the winner of the upcoming Candidates Tournament for the World Chess Championship 2013.

Anand is one of six players in history to break the 2800 mark on the FIDE rating list, and in April 2007 at the age of 37, he became the world number one for the first time. He was at the top of the world rankings five out of six times, from April 2007 to July 2008, holding the number-one ranking for a total of 15 months. In October 2008, he dropped out of the world top three ranking for the first time since July 1996. Anand regained the world number one ranking in 1 November 2010, having defeated the reigning world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in the Bilbao Masters, but had to concede the top spot back to Carlsen in July 2011.
